Brian was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1958. He lived in Milwaukee and Racine, WI through his high school years. He has two younger brothers and two younger sisters. Brian attended college at Concordia College in St. Paul, MN and graduated with a double major in Christian Education Ministries and Elementary Education in 1985.

After graduation from college in 1985, Brian served a church outside of Columbus, Ohio as their Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director through 1988. While in Ohio Brian met his wife, Jann. In January of 1989 Brian came here to Morton to serve as the Director of Christian Education at Bethel Lutheran Church. In December of 1989 Jann and Brian were married. In early 1990 Jann was able to secure a job transfer with her USPS letter carrier position from Ohio to the Morton Post Office. Jann and her two sons, Jason and Andy, then moved to Morton to join Brian.

In 1994 Brian transitioned to a new direction in his career path joining the sales team of Sam Leman in Eureka where he felt blessed to have a successful career as a sales consultant. Throughout most of the past ten years, Brian was the ‘Salesperson of the Year’ at Sam Leman.

In March of this year Brian joined our sales team to take advantage of the proximity to his home here in Morton as well as the inspiring work schedule here at Lighthouse Automotive. Brian says, “What impressed me the most about Lighthouse was the innovative culture that has been created here by the management team. Not only are the sales people here equipped with a wealth of interactive tools, they are empowered by the management to utilize these tools with each client. This empowerment creates a stress free buying experience for both the client and the salesperson.”

Lighthouse’s schedule of closing at 6pm Monday through Friday and 4pm on Saturday is definitely a plus for Brian. Now Brian has more time to spend with Jann in the evening. Jann and Brian enjoy running, biking and working out at Gold’s Gym here in Morton. Brian says the flexible schedule will also give Jann and him more of an opportunity to interact with their families in Ohio and Wisconsin. Brian’s step-son Jason lives in Ohio with his wife and son. Brian’s youngest step-son, Andy, now lives in South Carolina.

Brian thanks all of the employees of Lighthouse for welcoming him here and making his transition very enjoyable. Brian states: “ I am impressed with the flurry of activity throughout the dealership in sales and especially in service. Lighthouse is a great place to work!”

Lighthouse Automotive Treats Customers like Family

The summer of 2005 was a hot one for Central Illinois and lugging around an infant in a car seat didn’t make life any easier. Being first time parents, Andrew and I decided it would be a good idea to take our month old son with us as we shopped for a larger vehicle. We new we were going to look at a GMC because the safety records were strong, they had vehicles offering 3 rows of seating, and we weren’t ready to dive into the land of minivans.

We were living in Peoria, IL and made the fifteen minute drive to Morton IL. The dealership, now called Lighthouse Automotive, had several options available on the lot. We held our breaths, hoping little Aiden wouldn’t start screaming from his car seat. In a rare moment of silence, we entered the dealership and were greeted by Jim Hohulin.

We had spent the weeks before Aiden’s birth shopping around at different dealerships as we narrowed down the make and model that we were looking for. We were expecting the same type of service from Jim that we had received in other dealerships. In other words, we were expecting him to try to push us to make a decision that very day and to leave a hefty deposit. Instead, Jim talked to us as if we were at a friend’s party. He asked us about ourselves, the baby before jumping into the topic of a vehicle. We found ourselves relaxed and enjoying the experience.

We were given a thoughtful overview of all of the available options and told to take our time in making a decision about how we wanted to proceed. We spent the afternoon and the night talking about what we wanted to do and a week later returned to the dealership to make the purchase. When we bought our new GMC Envoy XL, Jim asked us to stand in front of the vehicle where he surprised us and took our picture. Later, we received a letter in the mail with a copy of that picture and it brings back fond memories.

Every year, we receive notes from Jim on our birthdays and on holidays. The notes simply say that he is wishing us the very best. There is no hint of pressure, just a message of appreciation and thoughtfulness.

We’ve since moved from the Peoria area, but if the opportunity arises to return, we’ll certainly be heading to Lighthouse Automotive when we need a new vehicle. You just can’t beat the down home service they provide.
